Selling the story

When my kids they were little and couldn’t read, I used to make up stories for them. We ended up creating characters and even mini-sagas. My kids were the main characters facing plenty of dangers that they always resolved with grace, intelligence, generosity and creativity.

I never had to persuade them to listen to my made-up stories. I wasn’t competing with a book. Not even with their favourite book. They wanted to hear from me.

This is the thing. You don’t sell a story – you tell a story, and because it matters to them, they come for more.
